TRAI instructs telecoms to use AI to filter fake calls and messages

To stop fake news and messages, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has announced a new set of rules for Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vodafone-Idea. TRAI has instructed the companies to use artificial intelligence spam filters to screen fake calls and messages. 

These new rules to be on effect from 1st May 2023. These AI filters will let the users to avoid    unwanted incoming calls and messages such as promotions, fraud and more that are received on a daily basis. The AI will catch such calls and messages and block them immediately. The telecom regulatory has further instructed the companies to stop allowing promotional calls from 10-digit mobile numbers that are majorly used by spammers and fraudsters.

As per reports, Airtel and Reliance Jio have already agreed to the new rules. However, these two telecom companies have refused to implement a Call ID feature that will allow users to see the image and name of the caller on their screen before taking the call, citing privacy reasons.
