The deadline to link your PAN and Aadhaar is 31st March 2023 and as per experts, it is unlikely to get another extension. Previously, the Central Board of Direct taxes extended the deadline multiple times and hence is unlikely to extend it yet again.

If the PAN-Aadhaar linking is not done by March 31st it will result in the PAN become inactive.

The deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar was originally set for March 31, 2022, but it was extended for an additional fee of Rs. 500 until June 30, 2022. This was again prolonged through March 31, 2023, but there was a fee of Rs 1,000.

Sujit Bangar, former IRS officer and CEO of Taxbuddy.com told Economic Times, "this time, the income tax department's correspondence was very extensive. The need for connecting the PAN and Aadhar has become much more widely known as a result of this. Therefore, I don't believe there is any chance of another extension of the date.

Here are the steps to link your PAN and Aadhaar online:

  • Log on to the income tax e-filing website - www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
  • Click on the 'Link Aadhaar' option
  • Enter the correct Permanent Account Number, Aadhaar Number, and your full name (as given in the Aadhaar card) in the relevant fields.
  • Enter the details such as date of birth in the designated fields
  • Enter the correct captcha code in the relevant field
  • Select the relevant option and click on the 'link Aadhaar' button at the bottom of the page
