Microsoft becomes the second company to join $3 trillion club after Apple

Microsoft has joined Apple as a $3 trillion company, as Wall Street continues to be impressed by Microsoft's investment in AI. As the second biggest company in terms of Market capitalisation, Microsoft's shares were up 1.31% at $404 on Wednesday. 

Apple remains at the top with a $3.02 trillion market capitalisation after reaching the $3 trillion market capitalization mark for the first time in January 2022. However, earlier this month, Microsoft briefly overtook the iPhone maker as the biggest company on the markets

Microsoft's AI investment

Microsoft has been vigourously investing in Artificial Intelligence and has a major partnership with OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, that is reportedly worth $13 billion. Microsoft has also launched several products enabling companies and individuals to use the capabilities of generative AI, notably via its Bing search engine and Copilot virtual assistant.

Microsoft's shares have gained some 67%, since the launch of ChatGPT in early November 2022.
