Sensex surges past 80,000 mark in record time, Nifty nears 24,400

The S&P BSE Sensex benchmark index opened strongly on Thursday, soaring past the 80,000 mark to around 80,300. Meanwhile, the Nifty50 rose by 66.35 points to 24,352.85. This milestone follows a brief crossing of the 80,000 threshold by the Sensex on Wednesday.

The Sensex achieved this landmark in just 138 sessions, marking its fastest rise to date.

Among the Sensex pack, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Technologies and Tata Consultancy Services were the biggest gainers.

HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, and Bharti Airtel were among the laggards.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 5,483.63 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
