Meta plans its first India data center at Reliance campus Chennai: Report

Meta is reportedly planning to establish its inaugural data center in India at the Reliance Industries campus in Chennai, as per sources familiar with the matter cited by the Economic Times.

The purpose of the data center is to produce content locally for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The deal between Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, and Reliance was allegedly finalized following discussions at the pre-wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Jamnagar in early March. The precise value of the deal remains undisclosed, the report stated.

The 10-acre campus is located in Chennai’s Ambattur Industrial Estate. It is a three-way joint venture between Brookfield Asset Management, Reliance Industries and Digital Realty. It has can provide up to 100-Megawatt (MW) IT load capacity.
