It is always confusing how much refund one will receive when cancelling a flight ticket. The answer can only be obtained when the ticket is actually cancelled.
A similar instance happened with Rahul Kumar, an IAS officer from the Bihar cadre. His tweet has gone viral on social media, where he shared a screenshot related to the cancellation of his flight. It should be noted that he received a refund of only ₹20.
According to his tweet, Rahul Kumar had booked a flight worth ₹13,820, which he later cancelled and received a refund of only ₹20 from the airline. He was charged ₹11,800 as a ticket cancellation fee, ₹1,200 as a GST on cancellation fee, and a convenience fee of ₹800. He received a meager refund of ₹20.
In the tweet, Rahul Kumar requested suggestions on where he should invest this refund amount. In response, many social media users started giving him advice. One IFS officer wrote, "For such a small amount, you will need extra security, sir!" Another user suggested donating it to charity and claiming it as a tax return. Meanwhile, someone else suggested buying one share of Yes Bank and two shares of Vodafone Idea with that amount.
