I'd say, drain the swamps. There are so many swamps.
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has a new mission.
Teaming up with fellow billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk has been named to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, under President Trump’s proposed administration.
Announcing their appointment President Trump said, and I quote, “Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures and restructure Federal Agencies,” end of quote.
Slashing federal bureaucracy and increasing government efficiency has been a key theme of the Trump campaign for the 2024 Presidential election and Elon and Vivek have been the two most vocal proponents of these reforms.
“We're going to be very open and transparent and be very clear about this is what we're doing [with the Department of Government Efficiency], here are the issues, this is the math for what's being spent. We're going to make the spending lower. And if somebody's got a better idea for how to make the spending lower, tell us. But if we don't, we're going to bankrupt the country. And so, we got to do something. And it's got to be some pretty big moves. [Audience] Drain the swamp! [Elon] I'd say, drain the swamps. There are so many swamps.”
I am actually far more intrigued and interested for the long run in what I think of as the second mass deportation that we require – which is the mass deportation of millions of unelected federal bureaucrats out of the DC bureaucracy. And I do think that is what going to save this country.
The significance of these bureaucratic reforms to increase government efficiency is highlighted from the fact that in his statement, President Trump has compared it with the historic Manhattan Project.
The Manhattan Project was the research and development programme undertaken during World War two to produce the first nuclear weapons. The project was led by the United States in collaboration with the United Kingdom and Canada.
Emphasising his expectations for drastic changes driven by the Department of Government Efficiency, President Trump has also said that the department will “provide advice and guidance from outside Government.”
President Trump further added that he expects Elon and Vivek to “drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout the annual 6.5 trillion dollars of Government spending” – a goal Elon Musk concurs with.
At the end of the day you are being taxed, you are being taxed, all government spending is taxation, whether it’s direct taxation – all government spending, it either becomes inflation or it’s through taxation. Your money is being wasted and the Department of Government Efficiency is gonna fix that.
And now that Elon and Vivek have been tasked with the job, President Trump has given them until July 4, 2026 to deliver a leaner, more efficient government.
But why this date? Because it’s the day America celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
