Move aside petrol, diesel, onions there is a new inflation superstar in town as the spotlight (or should one say the scorching sun) shines on lemons! Lemon prices are squeezing the budgets of households even further just as the heatwave sweeps the country.
One lemon now costs Rs 15 in some parts of the country,this is nearly 10 times more than its average price. This is giving the consumers a flash back to 2013 when onion prices soared over 200% due to many factors at play.

Just as the case with onions, netizens are quick to storm social media platforms flooding them with memes of #lemonprices. From clicking a picture of a lemon tree and worrying about a tax raid to swapping the idea of buying lemons with a Mercedes, consumers made light of what is clearly a very sour situation. Many memes focused on lemons joining the elite club of unaffordables - petrol, diesel and cng due to the recent price hikes.
