A slowdown in device shipments in the mobile phones industry is creating ripple effects in the job market, particularly in sales roles where new hires are being put on hold.

Local sales promoter profiles are seeing indirect attrition since companies aren't instantly replacing employees who are leaving these roles, reported The Economic Times through experts.

Exports have helped counterbalance the effects of the domestic slowdown on production and manufacturing, but this isn't the case for local sales promoter profiles. Even though there haven't been any job losses yet, experts warned that they might happen if shipments don't increase.

'We are observing a gradual slowdown in hiring for sales roles among handset manufacturers, primarily due to the absence of replacements for employees who leave the company. This is ranging 5-6% in the first two months of Q1 (April-June quarter FY24) as compared to (fiscal 2023) Q4,' Kartik Narayan, CEO, TeamLease Services, said.
