Senior Congress leader PC Chacko on Wednesday announced that he has quit the party and and sent his resignation letter to party interim president Sonia Gandhi. His resignation rendered a huge blow to the Congress ahead of the Kerala Assembly Election to be conducted on April 6
During a press conference, Chacko alleged that the Kerala Congress unit was plagued by groupism. Congress is functioning in Kerala not as a party, but a coordination committee between two groups, Chacko claimed. Citing factionalism he said it had become impossible for him to continue in Congress. He further attacked Kerala Congress leaders Ommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala alleging they are the ones deciding candidates based on their groupings in the party while the high command is a ‘mute spectator’.
