West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee registered a thumping victory in the Bhabanipur bypoll. Her BJP rival Priyanka Tibrewal conceded defeat as the CM led by close to 60,000 votes.
Mamata had to win the election to enter the state assembly before the end of her first six months as CM this term.
Celebrations broke out in Kolkata over Didi's emphatic show on her hoe turf.
Mamata had lost the Nandigram seat to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari in the state elections earlier this year.

Trinamool leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay had vacated the Bhabanipur seat to make way for Mamata Banerjee. She had won from here in 2011 and 2016. The chief minister's Kalighat residence is located in the constituency.
The BJP had put up lawyer Priyanka Tiberwal against Mamata in Bhabanipur.
The TMC is also ahead in Murshidabad's Samserganj and Jangipur constituencies, where votes are being counted for the assembly elections.
