Bengal violence: Tension as TMC leader shot at in Hooghly, civic office ransacked

Aditya Niyogi, a noted TMC leader from the Bansbedia area in West Bengal’s Hooghly district was shot at by unknown miscreants, triggering tension in the region. The attackers fled after locals rushed to the spot upon hearing the screams of the TMC leader.

Tension gripped the areas as the news of the firing spread. The house of the Bansbedia municipality administrator was ransacked.

Security has been heightened in the entire area. Police have also launched an investigation to ascertain the reasons and are looking at CCTV footage to identify the miscreants.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the firing was opened on Niyogi over internal factionalism in the TMC.
