West Bengal Chief Mnister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced the list of 291 candidates for upcoming assembly elections. Banerjee confirmed she will contest the poll from Nandigram and not Bhowanipore.
Banerjee will file her nomination on March 10. In Nandigram she will contest against former top aide Subhendu Adhikari who defected to the BJP in December.
Veteran TMC minister Sovandeb Chatterjee will be fielded from the Bhowanipore seat. TMC has fielded 50 women, 42 Muslim candidates.
The party has left out three seats of the total 294 for allies and friends to contest from North Bengal and other regions. It has also dropped over 20 sitting MLAs and top ministers, including Partha Chattopadhyay and Amit Mitra.
