Spanish football club Barcelona on Sunday marked the beginning of its post-Messi era with a convincing 4-2 win over Real Sociedad in a thrilling La Liga opener at home. Despite losing their star player to Paris Saint Germain, the Catalans gave an impressive performance as they dominated the game throughout.

Gerard Pique opened Barca's account in the 19th minute, which was followed by Martin Braithwaite scoring twice, one each in both halves. He became the first Danish player to score a La Liga brace.
Although Sociedad fought back hard as Julen Lobete and Mikel Oyarzabal scored back to back, the game ended with Sergi Roberto netting the fourth goal for Koeman's men in injury time as the Messi-less Barca sealed their first formidable victory.
