After more than a year spent in pyjamas, people are ready to put on their trusted pair of denim jeans again. Online searches for jeans are up 33 per cent since the same time last year with 2 million people searching for jeans every week, as per data from data firm Trendalytics.
In contrast, the weekly search trends for comfy items like leggings, sweatpants and joggers remain well below a million.
In fact, the market for denim is set to get bigger than ever and is expected to reach $26 billion by 2026, according to market intelligence firm EDITED.
While the demand for skinny jeans is far from over, people are edging towards loose fits and wider silhouettes. And the new staples are high-waisted jeans at 36 per cent of sell-outs and straight fit jeans making up 20 per cent of recent sell-outs.
Another, more trending jean style having a moment are colourful denims. And the trendiest colour to shop is purple making up 42 per cent of all coloured denim searches. Apart from the all-time favourite black, the most popular colours for denim as per data are green, pink, red and yellow.
So, whether you like them relaxed, straight or skinny, there's a denim jean somewhere with your name on it.
