After a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Bangladesh, Australian cricket is now hoping that their superstars get a good run during the Indian Premier League which will serve as a good platform to get in the grove ahead of World T20. Chief Selector George Bailey feels that stars like Steve Smith and David Warner who have not played any cricket since IPL was abandoned due to 2nd wave of Covid-19 in India will get better when the tournament resumes in the UAE.
Bailey added, "Absolutely have full trust that the IPL is a good prep (preparation), throw a bit of faith in the franchise that they, that they'll pick the players. Certainly our players, that'd be great so that they are getting those games and bat and bowl them in the exact roles that we'd like them to for the Australian team would be also great, but not sure we'll get any saying that. So, no, really comfortable with that. I think that, again, conditions will be so similar. So there's going to be some huge benefits to that."
After the disastrous tour of Bangladesh where 7 top stars didn't play, George Bailey and his team announced a full-strength squad for the Twenty20 World Cup including Steve Smith, David Warner and Pat Cummins.
