At least 14 dead in New York as Hurricane Ida causes heavy rains and flash floods

At least 14 people have died as Hurricane Ida battered New York City causing heavy rains and flash floods. 

Normal life has been thrown in a disarray with cars floating on waterlogged streets, water entering houses and flooding in the city's subways.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has declared a state of emergency saying that the city was "enduring an historic weather event" with "brutal flooding" and "dangerous conditions" on the roads.

Not just New York City but neighbouring New Jersey and Brooklyn too have been adversely affected by Hurricane Ida.
