An asteroid called Apophis, named after an Egyptian Lord of Chaos, is headed towards the Earth and could strike in 2068, a new study claims.

If it does collide with our planet, it may have an impact 65000 times worse than the Hiroshima nuclear disaster.

Astronomers at the University of Hawaii have discovered that the asteroid is being propelled by something called the Yarkovsky effect, causing the asteroid to speed up because its thermal radiation is not uniform.

To make these new observations about Apophis which was discovered in 2004, they used the Subaru telescope. The asteroid, with a diameter of 370 meters, is also likely to come very close to the Earth on 13th April 2029, making it visible to the naked eye!
