In another classic case of man-animal conflict, a local resident was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Morongi tea estate outside the reserve forest under Golaghat range in Assam on Sunday.
On Sunday evening, tea garden workers came face to face with a herd of wild elephants crossing the National Highway 39. The workers and passers-by were teasing the animals when one elephant in the herd lost its cool and chased people back. The 45 year old fell down while trying to run and was stomped by the enraged elephant.
According to official data, in the last 10 years, at least 812 people have died in Assam due to the human-elephant conflict.
