Apple has announced that Apple Music will soon support high-quality lossless audio and spatial audio support through Dolby Atmos.
The new features will be available for free to all subscribers, including those on student and family plans. Apple will provide three tiers of quality with lossless audio, with the highest tier requiring an external DAC, and cannot be played natively on any device Apple makes.
Spatial audio will be supported by most recent AirPods or Beats headphones that use the H1 or W1 chip. It will also play through the speakers of the latest iPhones, iPads, and Macs by default.
