Another jump in Covid cases: Over 46,000 in 24 hours, Kerala worst hit

India recorded another sharp spike in Covid-19 cases with over 46,000 new infections in the last 24 hours, govt data showed on Thursday morning.

After a significant dip on Monday and Tuesday when the reported new infection were in the 25,000 range, the country saw a spike with over 37,000 cases on Wednesday. There has been a spike of over 20,000 cases in the last two days.

The bulk of the new cases are being reported from Kerala where the virus is showing no signs of abating. Over 31,000 of the cases reported on Thursday are from the southern state alone.

The country also logged 607 Covid deaths in the last 24 hours taking total fatalities due to the virus to over 4.36 lakh.

The daily positivity rate remains less than 3% for the last 31 days and is presently at 2.58 per cent. Active cases constitute 1.03% of total cases, the lowest since March 2020. The national 19 recovery rate stands at 97.63%, the Union Health Ministry said.

India has administered over 60 crore Covid doses so far, according to the govt.
