External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday met Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran. Calling it a productive meeting, Jaishankar tweeted that he discussed strengthening of bilateral relations and also reviewed regional developments. Jaishankar made a stopover in Tehran on Tuesday on his way to Russia for a meeting with the foreign ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Jaishankar's visit to Iran comes just a few days after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Iranian counterpart in Tehran while coming back from a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. These back to back meetings between top ministers of India and Iran comes amid the backdrop of reports that Iran is not happy with India over Chabahar and they may sign a deal with Russia.
