The government could announce a fiscal package in the festival season to put money in the hands of the consumer, news agency IANS has reported.
The ₹35,000 crore-worth package could be rolled out around Navratri which is the biggest purchasing season for consumers, a Moneycontrol report said. This would mean putting money into the hands of the people as income has gone down for the salaried, migrant workers and small businesses.
In October 2017, just before Diwali, the government had announced cuts in GST rates on around 27 items, mostly consumer items, along with some other incentives.
In September last year, again just around the festival season, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a ₹1.45 lakh crore corporate tax rate cut, bringing in an early Diwali.
