Indian students recently discovered 18 new asteroids, the International Astronomical Union has confirmed.
The discovery was made as a part of a global science project called the International Asteroid Discovery Project conducted by STEM and Space in collaboration with International Astronomical Search Collaboration.
According to a PTI report, 150 students from all over India took part in the two-month long campaign to find the asteroids.
As a part of the project, students used advanced software analysis and analysed astronomical data provided by IASC. The report further added that of the 372 asteroid identified by the students, 18 were declared as confirmed discoveries.
