Indian American Samir Banerjee won the Wimbledon boy's title on Sunday after defeating American Victor Lilov, 7-5, 6-3 in the final. The 17-year-old who won his first-ever junior Grand Slam has participated in 2 junior Grand Slams. Samir's father Kunal Banerjee hails from Duliajan in Assam and had migrated to the United States in 1989. He said that his family has always supported his aspirations. The proud father also revealed that his son basically wanted to win one match, but he is now on a run. The young boy is currently ranked 19th in the junior ITF standings and had also managed to reach the doubles semi-finals at Wimbledon.
Yuki Bhambri who clinched the 2009 Aus Open was the last Indian player to win a Grand Slam junior title.
