French multinational chain Sephora's US division has taken the 15% Pledge, indicating that 15% of its shelf space will be dedicated to products of black-owned companies. The news comes after the 'Black Lives Matter' movement garnered centre stage following the death of an unarmed black man George Floyd. The move aims to make the company's supply chain more diverse and offer a platform for black-owned companies to expand. While Sephora currently offers 9 black-owned products, it acknowledged the fact that it could do better. 15% Pledge, an initiative of footwear designer Aurora James, urges retailers to pledge a designated amount of space to black-owned businesses.
