Fourteen people from Assam have been arrested for allegedly putting up social media posts in support of the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan and their return to power after 20 years, officials said on Saturday.
Police said the posts were made from 11 districts in the state. Besides, police also flagged three other profiles of people from Assam settled outside, one each in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and in Mumbai

A senior police official said that while some were directly supporting the Taliban, some others criticised India and the national media for not supporting the group, adding that this could create communal tensions.
Deputy Inspector General Violet Baruah said the Assam Police is taking stern legal action against pro-Taliban comments on social media that are harmful to national security.
According to police, at least 17 to 20 social media profiles have been found with posts backing Taliban and the group's action in Afghanistan.
The Taliban are currently in talks to form the government. Meanwhile, Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan has sparked concerns about the safety of locals as well as foreigners. Heartbreaking visuals that have surfaced show the plight of locals desperate to escape the Taliban rule.
