An elderly couple, out on their walk in Eastern France, were surprised to find a tiny capsule with a message sent across by a carrier pigeon almost a century ago.
The message, in German, was sent by an Infantry soldier in Ingersheim to a superior officer and reportedly charted out military manoeuvres amid World War 1, the Guardian reported.
Because the handwriting is illegible, the year could either be 1916 or 1910 and the date marked is 16 July. The couple handed over the rare discovery to the nearest museum, Musee du Linge at Orbey and will now become a part of the museum's permanent display.
