According to a new analysis by the World Bank Group and UNICEF, one in six children across the globe lived in extreme poverty before the Covid-19 pandemic and this is most likely to worsen in the days to come. 50% of the global extreme poor are children, the report states.

The sub-Saharan Africa accounts for two thirds of these children that live on $1.90 a day or less per person. South Asia accounts for one fifth of these children.

The economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic have made any progress slow and unequal.

The report urges governments across the globe to come up with a children's recovery plan to prevent unforeseen circumstances.
